Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas - Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences

Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) was founded in 1983 and is one of the largest research centers in Greece with well-organized facilities, highly qualified personnel and a reputation as a top-level research institution worldwide. FORTH reports to the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI) of the Ministry of Development and Investments. The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (ICE-HT) which was founded in 1984 and operates in Patras, Greece, is one of the ten (10) Institutes FORTH. The mission of ICE-HT is to conduct forefront scientific research, contribute to technological innovation, provide training and advanced education to new researchers, and contribute to the development of the Region of Western Greece, in particular, and the country as a whole. The Institute covers a broad range of disciplines within chemical engineering sciences: (i) nanotechnology & advanced materials, (ii) energy & environment, (iii) biosciences & biotechnology. The research results respond to modern societal challenges, like green energy, environment, and quality of life. The main assets of the Institute are the high quality of research personnel, its modern infrastructure and its efficient administrative and technical services.

Role within EMPHASIS

The main tasks of FORTH/ICE-HT in the project include, direct laser-assisted graphene growth and deposition on various types of substrates starting from biomass-related precursors, binder-free electrode development for operation at EDLC symmetric, asymmetric and hybrid modes, structural and electrochemical characterization of materials and devices, and training of young researchers in cutting-edge technologies for energy storage materials and processes.
